Safe on Base
I was standing in the laundry room minding my own business when my younger son came barreling in at full speed. He wrapped his arms around me and yelled at the top of his lungs, “I’m on base!” His brother was chasing after him, ready to deliver some sibling affection, and the words stopped him dead in his tracks. We all laughed as the boys realized how silly this was, especially now that they are almost as tall as I am! Regardless, those three simple words still work like a charm and clinging to mom is an instant safe house.
The image of running directly into the arms of a loving parent is just what I need today. I am frantically preparing for a writers conference, and I’ve already declared to my husband twice that “I’m not going.” He knows I don’t mean it, but there are overwhelming moments when I let insecurity and doubt get the best of me.
The event will be bustling with hundreds of women, publishers and agents, and inspiring Christian authors whose books are permanent fixtures on my nightstand. My heart feels full just thinking about spending time with so many sisters in Christ and continuing to grow in my writing. Yet fear has a way of creeping into a beautifully lit room and turning out the lights.
When I sit in the darkness of fear, my only way back to the light is a confident sprint to God. Wrapped up in His loving shelter, I can get back to trusting whatever He has planned for my life.
Maybe your walk is also taking you down a path that is out of your comfort zone. I pray you will find peace in God’s promise, “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
When we follow God’s lead and fiercely believe in His will, we can rest in assurance that we are okay. Safe. Safe from fear. Safe in His care. Safe on base!
Happy Wednesday-
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3

Wow, you knocked this one out if the field. Home run…..safely home.
Your metaphors are awesome. I do a double take on their meaning.
I am so happy to hear you are pursuing your gift of writing.
Well done friend, mom, sister.
Blessings,
Beth
