Obstacle and Opportunity
I recently had the pleasure of talking with a devoted dad in our community in the midst of a fierce life-storm—his child was diagnosed with cancer.
During our conversation, he spoke about their new experiences and the needs they are seeing for families in similar situations. Eager to help, he was understandably struggling to find time among so many pressing commitments. In the next breath, he said something unforgettable, “I don’t want to miss this opportunity.”
This opportunity.
Through the thick fog of a heartbreaking circumstance, he recognized that light can be carried from the darkness.
Such an awesome reminder for us all.
I reflected on his message later that week as I began the changing of the guard from summer to fall. While moving my not-so-happy spring plant to make room for mums, I noticed one splash of pink. One smiling flower within a big ole mess. And a smile crossed my face as well, taking in the image of hope. A beautiful representation of bursting color even when our surroundings feel gray. An answer to the question, “What can faith do?”
When we trust that God is beside us in our struggles, His peace opens up space for us. Space to find that bright flower. Space to seek purpose in our pain.
I pray that the words of a courageous parent and the image of flowering faith will deliver some strength to each of us today. Remembering there is no challenge too big for God’s peace. No obstacle without opportunity.
May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Thanks for the wonderful reminder that God is there in every situation we go through. Sometimes he is hidden and we need to work a bit harder to seek him. Remember that God is patient like the child playing hide and waiting for his friend to seek. What joy it is when they meet.
