From Intention to Action
My purple suitcase is partially filled. Speaking notes are in my trusty three-ring binder. Life is (mildly) organized for my family. And I am jazzed to go!
Tomorrow I leave for a much anticipated speaking event in Jefferson County Indiana. This county is spilling over with acts of kindness! Families, schools, churches, businesses—they are all engaged in a 40 day kindness initiative!
In addition to the logistics for my trip, I decided on one extra layer of preparation…
40 Days of Kindness!
I joined Jefferson County when they began their kindness initiative on April 2nd—just for fun and a bit of renewal. And it has been beautifully invigorating to do this project again, four years after my initial 40 day adventure.
After marinating in kindness during these years, deliberate daily acts feel different today. Like rereading a favorite book and noticing fascinating details.
The single concept I keep coming back to is a quote from my book. It seems strange to quote myself but whatever:)
I said this, “Committing to kindness pushes us from intention to action.”
Yep! It sure does.
I’m finding that my choices for acts of kindness are rather familiar. They are things I would think of doing on any given day, but I often fail to follow through. With good intentions, my idea for showing love is still just an idea when my head hits the pillow.
But with a commitment to daily kindness, I spring into action. That thought to send a card to a friend or pick up a morning treat for the school custodians becomes a priority. I make it happen that very day. And I’m always glad I did!
If you haven’t tried purposeful, consecutive days of kindness (whichever number works for you), why not give it a whirl? Or do it again! It’s good stuff and a simple way to bring joy to ourselves and others. To make it extra special…think of someone who could use a little pick-me-up and ask them to join you! Give the gift of giving.

Happy Wednesday my friends~

I have a huge lilac bush in my yard, and they smell like heaven! Every day I think of someone else to bring a bunch to. I am up to eleven people and I just keep cutting. It is such a great feeling to make someone smile!
