Face Time
For hours they chatted, laughed, shared pictures of grandkids, listened intently, ate scones, and laughed a whole lot more.
I was next to them at a quaint café, tapping on my computer, moved to tears by this vibrant group of women. Their smiles painted a beautiful picture—the simple joy of being together.
And I suddenly felt a surge of loneliness. A longing for my friends and family outside of the computer screen. Beyond a quick text and a smiley face emoji.
In a world where we can instantly and incessantly connect, it’s easy to lose sight of the original face time. The unrivaled splendor of being with our people. In the flesh. The importance of building the close relationships God created us to enjoy.
Ironically, the day after this moment in the coffee shop, my dear friend Tricia texted me in the morning and asked if I was up for a spontaneous walk. We hadn’t seen each other in weeks, and the weather was perfect.
But my day was packed.
I will tell you honestly, I would often choose productivity over connectivity in this situation (more often than I care to admit). I would want to drop everything, but I’d opt for a rain check instead—sticking to my schedule.
Not this day!
Inspired by those lovely ladies, I said yes! Then I cleared my calendar. And I didn’t even burst into flames!
When I told Tricia I was in, she texted back with these words—”Can’t wait. Sunshine, friendship, and exercise!” The trifecta.
Those three soul-fillers were like sacred fuel for me. I left our afternoon together restored and reenergized. Thankful for time well spent.
I have a challenge for all of you this week. Think of someone who brings you joy, and make it a point to spend time with them. Maybe even have a drop everything day. It’s great fun…kinda feels like playing hooky. Hope you enjoy it:)
“At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child, or a parent.” Barbara Bush

Lisa, you so often say things I really have to hear and absorb. This was wonderful, telling us to take a break from the busy times we always have, and make time to have fun with friends. Your Barbara Bush quote was perfect to too! I love your “Kindness starts with me” journal book, thanks so much! You’re making this world a better place, one person at a time!!

Always up for a walk, and being impromptu works great. Time permitting, we can walk at Longwood Gardens and really take in the beauty! Miss our weekly chats:)
