Follow the Leader
A few weeks ago, I had a blog post just about finished when I realized something important. It stunk.
Okay maybe that’s a bit harsh, but I really wasn’t feeling it. I tried to tie my thoughts together and make it work, but I was unsuccessful. It was too late to start from scratch for a post that week, so I had a decision to make: publish it on the blog anyway or bag it.
I reluctantly chose scrapping the post. And it was painful. I spent a lot of time writing those underwhelming words, and I was looking forward to our Wednesday stroll.
I retraced my steps, discovering that somewhere along the way I stopped seeking guidance and took a sharp turn in the wrong direction. It was a busy week, so instead of prayerfully planning, I was rushing and relying on myself. I pushed aside the truth that patience leads to peace, and sprinted directly into a brick wall.
Ouch.
Maybe you have experienced this wall-to-the-face. It can sneak into our commitments and our relationships as we plow through life, sometimes leaving us wondering how we ended up where we are. Wondering what happened to the trail we were on.
In Psalm 32:8, the Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
We all have the most incredible, high-tech GPS available… we just need to turn it on rather than leaving God in our dust as we race ahead to the next thing.
Admittedly, I am inconsistent in this attitude of surrender, knowing it involves crazy things like slowing down and letting go of my own agenda. But when I look at those words, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life,” I feel overwhelmed by the desire to let God lead.
We can trust Him to lead us forward. And we can trust Him to lead us to a clearing when we spin off-road.
My brain could use a visual reminder to keep these words active in every moment. What do you say, want to join me? Let’s post this verse where we will see it regularly. I’m thinking a sticky note on the fridge or a dry-erase marker to the bathroom mirror. Also, if you click on the graphic below, it will enlarge and you can just print it out and post it up!
As we absorb these words each day, may we all find comfort in God’s promises. Promises of peace and protection. Promises of guidance and grace.
Have an awesome day –

It’s so easy to see the “interruptions” as annoyances. But you are so right, they can be incredible gifts for us to enjoy.

What wonderful words that I so desperately needed today! It’s strange how God sends you a message when you most need it even before you realize you needed a reminder.

My Wednesday Son-shine on this gloomy day. I sat outside a Christian counseling office this morning, mentally judging the people walking in and out. “He looks like a sociopath, boy does she look like she needs help.”
Then I clicked on your post.
My granddaughter calls it a “Pineapple-to-the-face. What am I doing???
HIS “advice”…….
“Father God ~ thank you for allowing me this opportunity to pray for each person walking into this clinic. Guide them along Your best pathway, please watch over them.
